In October 2021, we had the WW1 Memorial Bench installed, and a very well used bench it is too! We were approached by the Selby Times as they wanted to run an article on the bench as the paper was doing a series of articles in the run-up to Remembrance Day. Never turn down an opportunity for publicity! We hot-footed round to see Sylvia to get her agreement to mention her uncle Rowland who sadly gave his life during WW1. She was delighted that Rowland would be remembered in the article. So, we drafted a piece and sent it off to the journalist. We awaited the publication in the Selby Times on Thursday – we are pleased with the article!
This year we decided to lay a poppy wreath on the bench, and Jan placed a purple poppy to remember all the war animals.
