On 26 January, we were doing some more geophysics on land adjacent to the area we had explored in September last year. Surprisingly for the time of year, is was a pleasant morning weather-wise. We were all wrapped up and seven volunteers, under the guidance of Jon Kenny, Community Archaeologist, descended at Tony and Jan’s at 10 o’clock in the morning.
We did not realise how large the area of land is! Were we going to be able to cover the area in the three hours we anticipated?
So, it was down to work, marking out with the tapes and guide ropes. At 11 o’clock a bell rang! Tea. coffee and a large selection of biscuits were delivered thanks to the kind hospitality of Jan, and Tony who brought them from the house, After the welcome cuppa, it was back to work.
We expertly worked our way around the tree trunks and Tony wielded long handled secateurs to take care of the annoying tree branches. It was great two people had the opportunity to handle the equipment for the first time and learn more about resistivity readings, and the many reasons why readings were markedly different to those on the adjacent land in September 2021.
We now eagerly await the results of the fruits of our labour to see if anything of interest is revealed!
