A couple of days after the summer solstice, the chosen five met to bring together ideas for the Osgodby Feast on 10 September. The first marker put down was the display of the research throughout the project in the main hall at the Institute. This raised the question of “THE” white display boards which had been in the village for some time, but we had managed without using them up until now. Were they stable enough, did they need painting, questions, questions, questions. Shirley was charged with going round to have a look at them at look and their suitability. Without them, what would we do – we have a lot of research to display!
Should we apply to close the road in the vicinity of the Waddy and Institute? Would Simon let us use the beer garden? What type of stallholders did we want – how many, where would they go? The ardent real ale drinkers suggested a mini beer festival? Should we round-off the day with entertainment in the evening in the Institute? Need to organise a hog roast? What sort of traditional children’s entertainment should be booked?
So, the first meeting ended with more questions than answers. What was evident was the need to meet up with Simon from the Waddy – but to track him and pin him down was the next adventure!
During the week, Shirley had bumped into Harold (one of our members) who suggested a Ceilidh in the evening to round the day off, although expressed disappointment if it was arranged as he and June would be away on holiday.
The following week, we were sat outside the Waddy waiting for Simon. After a couple of telephone calls to remind him he was meeting us, he appeared and put the kettle on (yes we were in the pub!). Down to work, and after two hours we had an outline plan and folk earmarked to go away and get some costing.
The Osgodby Feast is on it’s way back!
