The July monthly meeting was also combined with a social get together of members of the Group. Peter and June had kindly volunteered to host the meeting at Crumbling Piles, or far more aptly known as Osgodby Hall.
It was a sunny warm summer’s evening, so we could sit outside and admire the beautiful gardens of the Hall and the summerhouses (tongue in cheek referred to as “sheds”)
The Group were brought up-to-speed with the Osgodby Feast plans. Moving forward after the end of the HLF funded project was also chatted about.
Business over, everyone enjoyed drinks and nibbles. Peter kindly showed us around the hall and the impressive wood panelled dining room was admired. The ups and downs of an array of steps was unavoidable (good exercise though!) . Every room was either up two steps or down two steps, perhaps a sign of the extensions and building work that had gone on since at least 1845, when we know the Lord of the Manor, George Pelsant Dawson made significant alterations to the building.
June and Colin reminisced about the grounds being used as a play area by children in the village during the 1950s. The latest edition to the garden is a water fountain and people had to be reminded to be careful when reversing and driving out of the grounds,
